The other obvious advantage is that it also works for P3Dv4, I tried it in connection with REX Sky Force 3D and it works much better than Sky Force's internal engine, it creates more accurate/multiple cloud layers and it uses more weather stations.ĮDIT: the only shortcoming I see at the moment for this product: when you start the engine, the initial weather download is quite slow, I wish it was a bit quicker.ĮDIT 2: another neat thing is that historical weather can be set to dynamic i.e. One thing I like a lot of FSGRW is that it's the only solution available for X-Plane with historical weather, it's really nice finally being able to fly daytime in my local area (even if it's evening in real life). However I think that this is based only on altitude layers, not "horizontally": let's say you are at a certain altitude and you have few isolated clouds, going through an isolated cloud while maintaining altitude does not seem to cause more turbulence while you are inside the cloud than when you're out. if there is a layer of clouds at 5000ft, also the wind data at 5000ft will likely have more turbulence. I haven't tried specifically going through significant clouds strucures (since I had FSGRW for just a few days) and I didn't have that type of weather conditions in the areas where I was flying I imagine since the winds are layered based on altitude, you would have more turbulence while passing through a cloud layer as long as this has been recorded in the wind observations.Į.g. The sources seem good since it has plenty of weather stations even in isolated areas such as the Australian outback. It also creates multiple and varied cloud layers unlike more simplistic engines such as NOAA or default. In the last few days there were various wind conditions in my area and they were depicted quite well in the sim, FSGRW creates many wind layers based on altitude. It is obviously miles better than NOAA (which on XP 11.11 is now completely broken). I have the latest version which is now compatible with XP11 and P3Dv4.
